ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR CLASS X:
A REPORT


MSB Bangalore organized a full day Orientation Programme for the Class X students on Wednesday, 3rd February 2010 at Gottigere Burhani Masjid. The programme was attended by all the students of Class X and it was conducted by Ms. Munira Officewala with assistance from M.Juzer Bhai M. Abdulhusain bhai and Mr.Ravi, the class teacher. The programme was held as an additional reinforcement and intense personality development plan as a follow up to the regular counselling sessions being held in the school for students on every Wednesday.

Objective of the Programme:
The purpose and objectives of these sessions were to be able to impart to the students’ life skills that will support them to overcome barriers they face in life.

Skills Taught:
• Getting over upsets
• Realizing the effect of negative behaviour patterns on their life now as well as in the future
• Managing their study time effectively
• Planning the day and their studies to be able to maximise on the time available
• Getting clarity on what are their goals for the next 3 months, 6 months and 1 year
• Scheduling and organizing themselves
• Mind mapping
• Being able to communicate with their parents in a way that they experience parental support
• Being able to connect better with their peers and classmates
• I have started the foundations of making them aware that there will be competition in college, which they will have to cope with
• I have shown them the importance of writing down everything
• I have given them tips to study effectively
• They have also learnt to prioritize
• Taught them the importance of perfect practice
• We have done counselling with respect to getting over “negative emotions”

Student Work Smart Lesson Plan

Session I

I) Introduction

a) I shared the agenda of the day with the children
b) I got feedback on the progress from the time we started counselling sessions to now
c) I explained the principle of Curiosity – Experiment – Practice in life as well as for the session
d) I gave them the rules of the day
e) We explored the roadblocks the students experienced with relation to the exams
f) We started work on 3 month goals, and 6 month goals
g) I gave them a method to monitor progress

Session II

II) Requests and Promises

a) Explained what is a request
b) Explained what is a promise
c) Structure of recoding a Request and Promise
d) Exercise write down all the Requests and Promises they made and make
e) Got them in touch with how it felt to write down all R and P
f) I taught them the beginnings of Organizing with respect to scheduling the Request and Promise for completion the next day
g) Exercise on changing negative emotions to positive emotions with respect to studies

SESSION III

III) GOALS/DREAMS

a) Story with relation to not being clear to where the destiny lies
b) Showed the students how to schedule the evening
c) Supported them with clarity on 3 month goals with relation to the board exam
d) Got them in touch with the feelings associated with accomplishing the goal
e) 6 month goals and the feelings associated with accomplishing the goal
f) Listed down 5 year goals
g) Explained the importance of values
h) Homework
